    On April 2, 2011, on the site of the new standard formulation seminar of GB7258 Technical Conditions for Motor Vehicle Operation Safety held in Beijing, the reporter learned that the discussion resolution at the seminar: Trucks and dangerous goods transport vehicles with more than 12 tons will be forced to install retarders. Truck driving brake safety has taken an important step towards international standards.

    According to on-site sources, the new GB7258 standard will be officially issued at the end of 2011. As for the brake system retarder chapter, the national regulations will be fully implemented in 24 months from the date of official promulgation of the regulations.

    At the seminar, representatives of truck enterprises all agreed with this, believing that the implementation of this provision will bring higher security to domestic trucks. However, some enterprises previously installed retarders, which brought cost pressure or brand influence with other truck enterprises, were also resolved due to the promulgation of the standard.

    As a Talema retarder with a long history of more than 100 years, he is also pleased with the new provisions of GB7258 on retarders, and believes that it can provide safe and stable operation for Chinese truck users.     According to the reporter, European countries began to install retarders on buses and trucks with more than 8 tons in the 1950s. It is also emphasized that EU members must comply with such regulations. However, this is only a low limit. Some countries have adopted stricter national laws and regulations due to historical reasons and specific geographical environment and road conditions.

    The standard JT/T325 Classification and Rating of Operating Passenger Cars issued by the Ministry of Communications in 1997 stipulated that the retarder must be installed on large and medium-sized high-class II and high-class III operating highway passenger cars when it was revised in 2002. Although these regulations are later than foreign laws and regulations, they have played a positive role in the development of the retarder industry in China and the safety of vehicle driving
